John Broadwood and Sons’ is an English piano building firm established in 1728 in London, whose pianos have been beloved by many musicians and famous composers. The seven Broadwood pianos introduced in this CD were built between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Now they are owned by GAKKIGAKU SHIRYÔKAN (collection for organology) at Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo. The music played on each piano was composed around the time that piano was created. In this recording, we attempt to follow the evolution of tone developed by one piano firm across more than hundred years, and to retrace one of the important lines in the history of piano building.
