Projects

The Collection of Organology initiates projects on a multi-year basis and carries out intensive activities in line with various objectives and themes. Activities with a significant educational return continue after the project has ended.

String Instrument Project (2008-2011)

The aim of this project was to study and utilize the 18th-century stringed instruments in the collection. Capella Aurora Kunitachi, an ensemble group formed by teachers, graduates, and students of Kunitachi College of Music, have given a total of five concerts using the instruments in our collection to perform the music of the Viennese Classical School.

Piano Project (2012-2014)

The purpose of this project was to survey, measure, and photograph pianos in the collection and publish a catalogue of them with detailed information. In addition to organizing public events, such as workshops and lecture concerts, Pianos in Gakkigaku Shiryōkan (Collection for Organology), Kunitachi College of Music was published in 2016.

Instrument Media Project (2015-2016)

This project aimed to organize the performance footage that had been filmed, and also to promote its educational use by collecting missing information, linking it to the college curriculum and offering it for off-campus use. These videos have been available for visitors in the exhibition room, and the number of the videos is continuously being increased.

Acoustic Analysis Project (2020-2022)

The aim of this project was to carry out acoustic measurements of historical pianos and to fulfil the information provision system. Through the visualization and quantification of sound, the project attempts to elucidate and broaden the understanding of historical pianos.
