Activities
In line with our policy of archiving instrument-related materials that are essential for musical research, the collection is based on a systematic collection of musical instruments with no regional or chronological bias, rather than focusing on masterpieces or their antique value. Also, the collection organizes exhibitions of musical instruments, conservation and restoration, surveys, research, and the production of reference books, as well as lectures, workshops, and concerts.
Gathering Information on Musical Instruments
We investigate the collection in museums and research institutions around the world to ensure the frequent access to research materials on currently unavailable and uncollected instruments.
Sonic and Visual Documentation of Instruments
In addition to filming videos of instruments being played for the purpose of educational dissemination, we attempt to record as many sounds of instruments as possible in order to preserve their sounds as a permanent resource.
Storage and Restoration of Instruments
The conservation of musical instruments is important because they are meant to produce sound. Our collection takes care to keep the instruments in the best possible condition by automatically adjusting the temperature and humidity in the building at all times. In addition, some instruments are being restored with the aim of making them playable.
Producing Reference Books and Catalogue
We produce reference books for specific research projects, mainly on musical instruments, and organize related special exhibitions and lecture concerts. We also publish catalogues with information on our collection, as well as annual reports on our activities.
Extensions
Lecture concerts and workshops by specialists are held from time to time.
