The square piano was widely popular as a small piano for home use, especially in the 19th century. In fact, it has a somewhat special place in the history of Japanese keyboard instruments.
This instrument is quite large for a square piano; it was accepted as a resource of the museum in FY2022 and was tuned to be in sound-playing condition.
